Using donor sperm may be an option for:
To browse our donors, download the Addam Donor Bank app or visit Addam Donor Bank’s website. You can download the app now on the App Store or Google Play Store.
All donor sperm recipients and their partners (if applicable) will need to attend an appointment with a fertility specialist where your fertility and medical history will be taken and a treatment plan created.
You will receive a registration link from our Patient Services Team to complete your details.
After registration, you’ll receive a detailed cost quote and access to e-learning materials to guide you through the process.
You will have the option to request either one or two vials of your chosen donor sperm. Please ensure these donors suit your cycle type (i.e., DI/IVF). Donor sperm can be reserved for six months.
Please note: You will need to make a reservation PRIOR to day one of your period. If the sperm is not in the clinic, you will be required to wait until your next cycle.
Your fertility specialist will provide a pathology form for routine blood tests. Complete these tests as instructed.
We strongly recommend that patients complete either expanded carrier screening or genetic counselling to understand their selected donor’s carrier status. This can be organised through your treating fertility specialist once a donor has been selected.
Australian law requires all donor sperm recipients to complete two counselling sessions with an ANZICA-accredited counsellor. These sessions offer a chance to ask questions and receive further information about the process.
Once the prior steps and all of your documents are completed and returned, you can now commence treatment.
*The order of these steps/requirements may vary depending on your circumstances.

Donor sperm is provided by individuals who altruistically donate to help individuals and couples achieve their dreams of parenthood. This is carried out under strict regulations to ensure the highest standards of safety, ethics, and transparency.
A known donor is someone you have a personal connection with who has agreed to voluntarily donate their sperm. This could include a friend, relative, or trusted individual.
A clinic-recruited donor is someone who voluntarily donates sperm to an unknown recipient. These donors undergo comprehensive medical screenings to ensure the highest standards of safety, including testing for transmittable and genetic conditions, as well as a mandatory three-month quarantine period for sperm donation.
Additionally, clinic-recruited donors receive professional counselling to ensure they fully understand the legal and emotional implications of donation. Strict regulations and limits are also in place to manage the number of families that can be created from each donor, ensuring ethical donor usage.
This thorough process provides peace of mind for those using clinic-recruited sperm, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with all fertility regulations.
Donor insemination is a fertility treatment that involves placing treated donor sperm directly into the uterus.
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is a fertility treatment where an egg is fertilised with donor sperm in a laboratory incubator before the resulting embryo is transferred into the recipient’s uterus.
