FAQs

Is there a risk associated with the transportation and storage process?

Transporting frozen embryos, eggs and sperm between fertility clinics is extremely safe. A specialist cryogenic shipper is used to keep reproductive material in a secure deep freeze while in transit. Once the shipper arrives at Rainbow Fertility, the contents are carefully checked by our team.

We partner with an experienced medical transport provider that offers door-to-door service. Their team has successfully transferred reproductive material nationally and internationally, with no reported incidents. You can be assured that their welfare will be in the very capable hands of a specialised medical transport company whilst they are in transit to Rainbow Fertility.

Is there a risk to the frozen embryo, eggs or sperm?

No. Embryos, eggs or sperm remain securely stored in a specialised cryogenic tank throughout the journey. These tanks are designed to maintain the correct frozen environment and are carefully monitored before, during and after transport.

At Rainbow Fertility, we also monitor all storage tanks for temperature consistency and maintenance, before every use and at regular intervals.

Is there a risk of my frozen embryo or gametes being misplaced or mixed up with another?

This risk is extremely low. All reproductive materials are clearly labelled and cross-checked multiple times at the point of freezing, during transfer, and upon arrival. The processes used are highly specialised and do not involve direct exposure to liquid nitrogen.

Rainbow Fertility clinics follow RTAC standards, which are set by the Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand, ensuring high levels of safety and traceability.

Is there evidence that frozen embryo transfer still works after transport

Yes. A published scientific study (Reed, reporting in The Clinical Embryologist, Volume 10, Issue 4) showed that vitrified embryos held in a storage tank for three days had no difference in survival or development when thawed. This study also showed that the duration of storage had no effect on the thawing outcome, survival and continued embryonic development.

What is the cost to switch to Rainbow Fertility?

The main costs include transportation by courier and a one-off storage fee for receiving the embryos, eggs or sperm. Please contact our friendly team on 1300 222 623 to discuss your specific situation.

Is the IVF process different at Rainbow Fertility?

At Rainbow Fertility, we understand that each fertility journey is unique and therefore, your treatment will vary depending on your circumstances. Following your consultation with one of our fertility specialists, you will have a tailored fertility plan and a clear understanding of the next steps involved in your treatment plan.

Rainbow Fertility fully supports and facilitates the transportation of vitrified embryos. We are happy to assist you in moving your embryos between clinics. If you have any questions, please contact our friendly staff to speak to one of our experienced scientists.
