“Families come in all shapes, sizes, combinations and varieties. LGBTQ+ families are no different. I love helping those who wish to experience the joys of parenthood. I feel privileged.

Dr Stamatiou works primarily in:

  • IVF and fertility care.
  • Gynaecology.

Dr Andy Stamatiou graduated from the University of Queensland in 1990. He began training to become a specialist in Gynaecology in 2001 and was granted a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2009.

Get to know your doctor

  • I grew up in… Dutton Park, Brisbane, with my two brothers. Our parents came from Greece when they were young and worked hard to provide for us. Our Greek heritage is as important as our Australian traditions.
  • I start my day… organising my sons for school, checking they have everything they need for lessons that day, and that their uniforms are up to scratch. Getting them to school on time can be a close-run thing sometimes.
  • When I am not working… I work hard, but try and make time to catch my sons playing soccer (and cheer them on) if there’s a big game coming up.
  • Most people don’t know that…  I’m quite the handyman. I built an elevated cubby-house for my boys when they were small.
  • When I was growing up, I wanted to be… a doctor. As clichéd as it sounds, it’s what I always wanted to be.
  • My greatest achievement is… the difference I make to people’s lives every day. The look on someone’s face when they find out they are going to be a parent is priceless.
  • The one person I would have liked to have met is…  my maternal grandfather. My mother spoke of him fondly, growing up in the northern part of mainland Greece, a totally different place and time to Australia today.
  • The best advice my parents gave me was… “Work hard and you’ll achieve. Appreciate your family and you’ll be a happy man.”
